Last-start Sandown winner Mutamayel topped the Inglis Melbourne Spring Sale after being knocked down for $90,000 to Mark Pilkington Management (FBAA) on Friday.

Mutamayel (4g Snitzel – Roses ‘N’ Wine by Broken Vow) is a three-quarter brother to Randwick Group 1 winner Hampton Court and was initially purchased by Shadwell Estates as a yearling for $900,000 at the 2016 Inglis Easter Sale.

A winner of his first two starts at Pakenham and Sandown, he transferred to Dubai but failed in stakes company at Meydan before returning to Lindsay Park for another on-pace victory at Sandown on August 29.

Pilkington graduate Bellaria (NZ) won the Hocking Stuart Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield last Saturday and her connections are hoping for some black-type this month. “She’s off to stud soon,” trainer Darren Weir said. “We might throw her in the deep end and see if she can sneak a place in a stakes race.”

Bellaria (Magnus) was a $100,000 buy for Pilkington at the 2015 NZ Ready to Run Sale on behalf of a partnership that includes Cotton On Group director Ash Hardwick. Her USA-bred dam Flowerdrum (Mister Baileys) won five races in England and the G2 Stock Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Pilkington wasn’t the only FBAA member on the buyers’ list at Oaklands on Friday. Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy was second the leader-board with an $70,000 bid for Sukoot (Savabeel).

A Kyneton maiden winner for Lindsay Park last season, Sukoot is from a half-sister to G1 Victoria Derby winner Monaco Consul and was runner-up at Wangaratta on Monday.

John Freyer bought six lots topped by Denman mare Dimanche for $52,000. She was a two-time winner at Geelong last season and is a half-sister to G1 Queensland Derby winner Sonntag.
