Myboycharlie colt set for G1 Golden Slipper

Charlie Boy booked his place for the big juvenile races in the autumn with a superb debut victory at Rosehill on Saturday.

The win was also a first for Vinery’s Group 1 winning freshman Myboycharlie.

Charlie Boy (2c Myboycharlie – Maritime by Falbrav) overcame a check in running to overhaul Windjammer by a half-length in the ATC Membership On Sale Now Hcp (1100m).  “He’s one of the better ones I have ridden for quite some time,” jockey Glyn Schofield said.  “I won’t be getting off him.”

The winner is raced by a Triple Crown syndicate after changing hands for $80,000 at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions Summer yearling sale.  He’s the first foal from an unraced daughter of G1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Pontal Lass (Marauding).

Schofield wasn’t the only one impressed with the performance – Windjammer’s jockey Nash Rawiller couldn’t believe he was run down.  “My bloke was outstanding but what about the winner?” Rawiller said.  “It was an unbelievable effort to pick us up.”

Charlie Boy is eligible for the Magic Millions 2YO Classic but he pulled up shin-sore on Saturday and will be spelled for the G1 Golden Slipper.  “You only get a crack at one or two of the big two year-old races,” trainer Gerald Ryan explained.  “I’ve especially taken it a bit easier with my young ones this season.”

Myboycharlie (Danetime) was Champion French 2YO in 2007 and Vinery is standing him for an $8,800 (inc gst) service fee.  His first crop were well received with the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions draft averaging over $120,000.

Charlie Boy and several of his other promising youngsters will ensure the Myboycharlies will be just as popular at the 2013 majors.  He has 9 yearlings catalogued for the Gold Coast Magic Millions and another 14 at the Inglis Classic when the sale season begins in January.
