Myboycharlie popular on Day 1 at Magic Millions

Vinery sire Myboycharlie made an auspicious start to the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Wednesday when his first crop yearlings sold to $165,000.

The Day 1 results on the Gold Coast represent a lucrative mark-up on his first-season fee of $13,000.

Top price of $165,000 was paid for Lot 148, a bay colt by Myboycharlie out of the stakes placed mare Montelimar.  He was knocked down to Gai Waterhouse and Star Thoroughbreds syndicator Denise Martin.

Waterhouse and Martin have enjoyed tremendous success with Myboycharlie’s associate sire More Than Ready via 2008 Golden Slipper hero Sebring and 2012 Blue Diamond Stakes prospect Raceway.

Victorian based Bahen Bloodtsock and Malua Racing also weighed in with $130,000 for a striking Myboycharlie colt out of the American bred stakes winner Olivine (Royal Academy).

“The Myboycharlies were very well received in the days leading up the auction and it’s fantastic to see so much competition for his first yearlings up here,” Vinery’s Adam White said.  “They could be back here in 12 month’s time competing for $2 million in the Magic Millions Classic.”

Myboycharlie (Danetime) was a G1 winner of the Prix Morny and he has another 10 yearlings still to go under the hammer during the remaining sessions on the Gold Coast.

Progeny of Vinery stallions More Than Ready, Testa Rossa and Mossman were also popular on Day 1.  The top-priced More Than Ready went to Peter Moody who paid $190,000 for the colt from Flying Spur mare Holidazzle.

All five Testa Rossa yearlings that paraded changed hands with a top price of $210,000.’

Mossman’s colt out of the Flying Spur mare Informant sold for $75,000 to Hawkes Racing.  They also put the polish on Mossman’s Group 1 performer Love Conquers All.
