Nadeem nails first-season lead at Seymour

Darley stallion Nadeem edged ahead of his first-season rivals on the winners’ premiership when Thawaabet nailed the Railway Club Hotel Maiden Plate (1412m) at Seymour on Thursday.

Thawaabet had led them up before fading at her previous two starts at Kyneton and Sandown. She jumped a couple of lengths clear on Thursday but was no match for Almighty Ale who flew the coop and led by the best part of 8 lengths at the half-mile.

Almighty Ale had no sooner been claimed by Darley colt Cornell before Thawaabet closed to win by a nose.

Thawaabet (2f Nadeem – Tahtheeb by Zabeel) is trained by David Hayes for Sheikh Hamdan. They combined to win the 2006 G1 Blue Diamond at Caulfield with Nadeem.

His Seymour filly is the first winner from a mare who was placed at Strathalbyn and Kyneton for the same connections. Second dam Rebecca Sharp (Straight Strike) is a half-sister to Champion NZ 2YO and 3YO Filly Phillipa Rush.

Nadeem has sired 8 individual winners to lead All Bar One (7) and Artie Schiller (7).
