Navajo nails first win for Cape North

Cape North (NZ) sired his first winner at Albany on Sunday.  The Nui-Mara Stud stallion broke his duck when Navajo Dreaming led from start to finish in the Airlite Group Maiden (1000m).

Navajo Dreaming (4m Cape North – Vivano by Slant) was racing first-up after six months.  She had been run down in two starts during an initial campaign in May.  Trained locally by Alan McGuinniss, the winner was withdrawn from the Navajo Plains draft at the 2010 Perth Magic Millions Autumn yearling sale.

Navajo Dreaming is the last of five winners foaled by Vivano.  The dam is a half-sister to Bradson (Serheed) who won 15 races up to G2 level in the WATC Lee Steere Stakes, Winterbottom Stakes and WA Guineas.

Nui-Mara Stud operator Keith Reeves stands Cape North in conjunction with Parkview Thoroughbreds owner Leslie Rintoul.  He won the G2 WA Guineas (1600m) and LR Detonator Stakes (1800m) in a 20 start career for trainer Fred Kersley.

“Cape North was a tough, willing racehorse with a work ethic that made him a pleasure to have in the stable,” Kersley recalled.  “He was one of the best and most athletic horses I have ever trained.”

Reeves advertised Cape North (Cape Cross) for a $2,200 service fee this year.
