Newgate Farm signs Sizzling

Group 1 winning sprinter Sizzling has been purchased by Newgate Farm.

Newgate Farm’s managing director Henry Field immediately called a halt to the Snitzel stallion’s spring carnival in Melbourne.  He will be spelled and brought back for an autumn campaign before joining Foxwedge at the Hunter Valley stud in 2014.

“He’s a horse of immense natural ability,” Field said.  “He’s a Group 1 winning two-year-old with a lot of speed in his pedigree so he ticks all the boxes.”

Sizzling (4h Snitzel – Admirelle by General Nediym) was a $260,000 buy at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions for a syndicate headed by David and Diane Devine and champion footballer Leigh Matthews.

Trainer Kelso Wood prepared Sizzling to 7 wins in 21 starts including the G1 T J Smith (1600m) at Eagle Farm last year.  He started a short-priced favourite after lead-up victories in the Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast, Champagne Classic at Doomben and Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.

He returned as a three year-old to win the G2 Queensland Guineas at Eagle Farm in June.  A new trainer for Sizzling will be announced next week.
