Alwyn Park Stud’s Ngyrie Gonzalez put WA the national stage during the Australian Stud & Stable Staff Awards at The Star on the Gold Coast.
Celebrating its tenth anniversary at The Star on Wednesday evening, Australia’s Stud & Stable Staff Awards recognise the winners of seven categories and each one received $10,000 and a trophy. Highlighting the national breadth of talent within the industry, Northern Territory-based Trudie Clarke and Nicole Mutimer both won Awards from the Top End.
Ngyrie won the Dedication to Breeding Award sponsored by Magic Millions.
Born and bred in East Vic Park, Ngyrie has worked for Alwyn Park owners John and Sandra Andrew for 18 years and, along with her partner Sam Vale, has her hands full bringing up their 3yo son Joel.
“It was a bit of a shock when they read my name out,” she admitted. “I was overwhelmed but remembered to thank ‘the boss and his wife’ for nominating me.”
The Stud And Stable Staff Awards are sponsored by Godolphin and are designed to showcase exceptional talent within the thoroughbred industry. The Top 5 nominees are interviewed by the judging panel before the two finalists are named ahead of the Awards Night.
“The runner-up in the Dedication to Breeding was Diane Colebrook from Armidale Stud in Tasmania,” Ngyrie said. “It’s an honour to win it against some others just as deserving. I don’t know what we will do with the $10,000. Maybe buy a broodmare!”
