Bargain purchase Snow Excuse (NZ) will be aiming to add another stakes victory to his record in the Listed Wanganui Guineas (1340m) on Saturday.
A winner of the Listed Ryder Stakes, Snow Excuse was one of 10 weanlings purchased by Cambridge trainer Ralph Manning in 2009. The son of No Excuse Needed (Machiavellian) cost a mere $4,500, but has already earned $39,725 in prizemoney.
Also among the 10 was Listed Fordell O’Leary Fillies Stakes runner River Nymph (Captain Rio).
Manning is renowned for his ability to select a diamond in the rough, having trained globetrotting G1 winner Seachange (Cape Cross).
“Snow Excuse is a big strong horse and he races as though he will get a bit of ground,” Manning said. “He’s done quite well since the Ryder Stakes and had a quiet trial at Cambridge last week.”
Snow Excuse (NZ) meets a talented field headed by Karaka Million winner Fort Lincoln (Charge Forward) and stakes performer Dollario (Captain Rio).
