Northern Meteor in demand at Newmarket

The extent of Northern Meteor’s loss to the industry was emphasised again when One Sweet Day topped the Inglis Sydney Spring Sale on Friday.

One Sweet Day (Elusive Quality) was offered in foal to Northern Meteor and made $80,000 to the bid of Luskin Park Stud.  She is positive on a maiden cover to Australia’s champion first-season who died in July.

The 7yo mare was bred by Wood Nook Stud’s Bob Scarborough and originally made $100,000 at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.  She was trained by Jason Coyle and won races at Wyong, Kembla and Canterbury.

One Sweet Day is from a half-sister to Nureyev stallion King Charlemagne who Scarborough shuttled out here in 2002.  He was exported to Italy after five seasons at Blue Gum Farm in Victoria.

A total of 116 lots changed hands for $532,050 at the Newmarket sales complex on Friday for a clearance rate of 95%.
