Arrowfield Stud sire Not A Single Doubt has all the bases covered with the best juvenile fillies on either side of the continent.
Karuta Queen (2f Not A Single Doubt – Card Queen by Final Card) won the Magic Millions 2YO Classic on the Gold Coast and is second favourite for the G1 Golden Slipper at Rosehill on April 2.
In Perth, his filly Single Spice made a winning return to racing in the Listed Supremacy Stakes at Ascot on Saturday. She defeated Red Hot Sax (Saxon) by a short head. Trainer Simon Miller will now target her towards the G2 Karrakatta Plate on March 19.
“She will strip fitter off the back of this run and she’s crying out for blinkers,” Miller said. “I was reluctant to put them on her first-up because I didn’t want her to have a super hard run. She lacks that bit of concentration and only does just enough to win.”
Single Spice (2f Not A Single Doubt – Zaffron Gal by Galileo) is raced by former AFL football star Peter Bell and Perth businessman Ray Meadowcroft.
They also own Night War (General Nediym) who as runner-up in the Perth Magic Millions 2yo Classic a fortnight ago.
Single Spice was a $20,000 buy at the 2009 Magic Millions National weanling sale from Brooklyn Lodge. Her dam Zaffron Gal was a member of Gerry Harvey’s Best Western Group but died in shortly after foaling a Not a Single Doubt filly in October 2009. Second dam Zafair (Zafonic) is a sister to Lynward Park shuttler Trade Fair.
Bell and Meadowcroft paid $40,000 for the second Not a Single Doubt – Zaffron Gal filly at last month’s Gold Coast Magic Millions.
Not a Single Doubt holds a seven-figure lead on the Australian 2YO premiership with earnings of $1.41 million. The Golden Slipper is worth $3.50 million prizemoney and it usually decides which stallion wins the title.
The Karrakatta is a $500,000 event and that would be a welcome windfall for the winning sire.
Not a Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice) also shares the lead in the juvenile wins category. He and Exceed and Excel are both on 9 wins ahead of Jet Spur and fellow Arrowfield sire Snitzel on 7 wins. Next best are Stratum and General Nediym with 6 wins.
