NZ bred star sidelined in Singapore

Trainer Bruce Marsh’s aspirations of completing a Singapore Group 1 double with his NZ bred gelding Race Ahead have been curtailed through injury.

Marsh was hoping to tackle the Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup (2200m) on November 14 with his G1 Singapore Derby winner Race Ahead.  However those plans have been shattered with news the Al Akbar gelding has a tendon strain and will require time on the sidelines.

“It looks like he suffered the injury during the Derby,” said Marsh. “It’s a tendon strain but it doesn’t look too bad.  “He won’t come back until he’s 110% and there is no time frame on when that will be.”

Of better news for Marsh is the return of last month’s G3 Magic Millions Juvenile Championship winner Gingerbread Man (Shamardal).  “He’s had a good break and he’ll start work again in a week’s time,” said Marsh.  “There are a lot of options and we could go anywhere at anytime with him, but at this stage he will stay here to get his three-year-old season underway.”
