Redoute’s Choice edged closer to a century of stakes winners on Friday when Abidewithme was a determined winner of the LR Ray Coupland Stakes (1400m) at Ashburton.
The Arrowfield champion has now sired 93 stakes winners. The NZ result follows his British bred mare Shaqira who made it 92 in the LR Nereide Rennen (2000m) in Munich last Sunday.
Abidewithme (3f Redoute’s Choice – Crimson by Zabeel) is a homebred for Sir Patrick & Lady Hogan and is two-from-two after a successful debut at Timaru last month. “She’s a filly going places,” trainer Jason Bridgman predicted. “She has a big motor and has that top gear. Good horses can win at shorter trips and she is going the right way towards the Guineas.”
Abidewithme is from G2 Ellerslie Championship Stakes winner Crimson who has already foaled G1-placed stakeswinner Miss Scarlatti and stakes-placed A Fairy’s Kiss among her six winners.
Second dam Bourbon Lassie (Mellay) also foaled G1 Victoria Derby winner Omnicorp (Grosvenor), G2 Sandown Cup winner Pharostan (Imposing) and LR Rosehill Cup winner Bourbon Boy (Reindeer).
Redoute’s Choice has sired six stakes winners in NZ and four of them carry the Zabeel cross. He sired King’s Rose to win the Coupland Stakes in 2010 and she went on to double up in the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas.
