Darley sire Shamardal made an instant impact at Group 1 level in Australia when the Bart Cummings trained Faint Perfume won the Victorian Oaks last Thursday.

Shamardal is also the sire of G3 Norman Robinson Stakes winner Shamoline Warrior who was pre-post favourite for the G1 Victoria Derby before his withdrawal on the morning of the classic due to an elevated temperature.

Te Runga Stud’s Wayne Larson will offer the only Shamardal at the NZ Ready to Run Sale.  Catalogued as Lot 209, the colt breezed well in a time of 10.80s and he is out of G3 winner Clerio (Soviet Star).  The dam is a half-sister to G2 winner Bahr (Generous) who placed in both the G1 English and Irish Oaks.

The colt’s third dam La Mer (Copenhagen) was New Zealand’s Champion 2YO and 3YO filly in the 1970s when winning 24 races including the G1 NZ Oaks, Air New Zealand Stakes and Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes.

The Shamardal colt is expected to sell between 4-5pm next Tuesday, November 17.

Te Runga’s first season stallion Castledale (Peintre Celebre) was a G1 winner of the Santa Anita Derby and he sired trial winners at Ashburton, Woodville and Waverly last week.

Queen Of The Castle was his first race day starter on Thursday and she did extra well when finishing runner-up to Cellarmaster at Otaki.
