NZ Sale features 17 South Island sires

The NZ Bloodstock 2YO South Island Sale on Friday, August 6, features young stock by 17 South Island-based sires.

Coats Choice (Redoute’s Choice x Coat by Brocco) – 13 entered.
Standing at Berkley Stud in Christchurch, Coats Choice’s is from the first crop of Redoute’s Choice and showed all the promise of a good racehorse before injury thwarted his career. From a sire-producing family that includes Catbird, Danbird and Maizcay, his oldest crop are currently two-year-olds.

D’Cash (Danehill x Canny Lass by Bletchingly) – 4 entered.
Timaru-based Belmont Park is where Danehill son D’Cash resides. From the multiple Group 1 winning mare Canny Lass, he is the sire of stakes winners Huat Chai, Strapped for Cash and Udiditagain plus handy gallopers Waikeepadacash, Aussieaussieaussie and Regency Dragon.

Gallant Guru (Montjeu x Proud Halo by Don’t Say Halo) – 9 entered.
Young White Robe Lodge sire Gallant Guru is represented by nine youngsters. During his racing career he won on eight occasions including four at stakes level, the highlight being the Group 2 MRC Sandown Classic (2400m) in course record time. Unfortunately for the half-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Gold Guru, his racing career was cut short by injury.

Justice Prevails (Proud Knight x Innocent Lady by Water Mill) – 4 entered.
Standing at Dave Haywood’s Phuttock’s End, multiple stakes winner Justice Prevails performed admirably in an Australian season dominated by fillies. He won the Group 2 Todman Stakes and finished second to Bint Marscay in the Group 1 STC Golden Slipper, second to Tristalove in the Group 1 AJC Sires Produce and third in the Group 1 VATC Blue Diamond.

My Halo (Southern Halo x My Swinger by Groovy) – 14 entered.
Berkley Stud’s Group 1 winning sire My Halo boasts the impressive winners to runners ratio of 65%. He is a popular sire of tried horses to the Asian markets and has produced the stakes winners My Astron, Ka Lam Fortune, O’Cartier, El Santo, Halobelle and Beau Brummell.

Remind (Deputy Minister x Watch The Time by Timeless Moment) – 12 entered.
Racing on turf in America, Remind won on five occasions over 1600 – 1800 metres including the Listed Keeneland Storm Cat Stakes. He was also stakes-placed on 11 occasions and now stands at Long Acres Stud where his oldest progeny are two-year-olds.

Sunray (Zabeel x Lambert Miss by Danzatore) – 6 entered.
Willow Glen Stud stand the son of Zabeel in Sunray. From the family of Sirmione, Great Command, Millward and The Hombre, during his racing career Sunray won six including the Group 3 NZ St Ledger (2500m) and the Group 3 Rotorua Challenge Plate Handicap (1900m).

Yamanin Vital (Sir Tristram x She Might Hula by Caucasus) – 11 entered.
Now deceased there are limited opportunities to secure progeny of former White Robe Lodge sire Yamanin Vital. With limited opportunities at stud, he is the sire of Group 1 winners Cluden Creek and Cut the Cake. On Saturday he was represented by Yummy, winning the QLD Tatt’s RC A$45,000 Sky Racing Handicap (1800m) plus he has promising stayers in the wings this season in Herculian Prince and Beijing Boy.

Other southern sires with one or two lots apiece are Cabrera, Chagall, Danske, Hadaad, Kingmaker, Lord of Warriors, Occidental Tourist, Personal Escort and Seasoned Star.
