NZ sire Charms Chalmers

A grey filly by Charm Spirit topped the Book 2 spend by John Chalmers Bloodstock (FBAA) during the NZB Yearling Sale at Karaka.

Chalmers paid Curraghmore Stud $100,000 for the filly on behalf of leading Perth owner Bob Peters.  She is from Irish-bred mare Egeria (Daylami) who has already foaled winners by One Cool Cat, Makfi and Sir Percy.  Second-dam Spring (Sadler’s Wells) won a Group 3 in Italy.

“She’s an outstanding filly with plenty of size and length,” Chalmers said.  “She has some beautiful bloodlines and Charm Spirit has been well-received here this week.  With the double up of Sadler’s Wells in her pedigree, she could be a nice Oaks prospect.”

Charm Spirit (Invincible Spirit) shuttles to Windsor Park and won in Group 1 company at Ascot (Queen Elizabeth II Stakes), Longchamp (Prix du Moulin) and Chantilly (Prix Jean Prat).

“She is a sound, athletic filly with plenty of scope,” Curraghmore’s Gordon Cunningham said.  “She looks like an obvious middle-distance type consistent with her family background being from the family of Pentire and Shirley Heights.

“And it’s nice to know that John agrees with me.”

Chalmers also purchased colts by Jimmy Choux and Showcasing plus fillies by Niagara and Proisir during Book 2.

His Book 1 buys heading to Perth included fillies by Showcasing, Fastnet Rock, Iffraaj, Tavistock, Ocean Park and a colt by Reliable Man for a total outlay of $1,035,000.
