Paxton Park owner Henk Smit has signed Jakkalberry for his Cambridge based property in New Zealand.
The 2012 Melbourne Cup placegetter will stand alongside Gorky Park (Montjeu) and Prince Conti (Redoute’s Choice). Paxton Park lost leading sire Shinko King (Fairy King) in 2012.
Jakkalberry(Ire) was retired in January after pulling up sore in readiness for a second trip to Dubai. He won 12 races in four different countries and was last seen winning a prep race at Wolverhampton in January.
He was part-owned by Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock manager Darren Dance who has just retired Mawingo (Ger) to Larneuk Stud in Victoria.
Jakkalberry (8h Storming Home – Claba Di San Jore by Barathea) claimed the G1 Gran Premio di Milano (2400m) in 2010 and added three more wins up to Group 3 level in Rome before claiming the American St Leger at Arlington Park.
After filling a place behind Green Moon and Fiorente on the First Tuesday of November, he returned home and won the G2 City Of Gold Stakes at Meydan.
Smit has settled on a $6,000 fee for Jakkalberry at Paxton Park in 2014.
