Oratorio (Aus) popular in Singapore

Irish Coffee began living up to the potential he showed last year with a Class 4 victory at Kranji on Friday evening.

Irish Coffee (4g Oratorio – Irish Rumour by Citidancer) posted his third win in Singapore after racing on the pace for Chris Munce.  He had earned black-type when runner-up to Good Baby in the Malaysian Magic Millions Classic last December

“He’s been racing consistently and it’s good to get back in the winner’s circle,” owner-trainer Steven Burridge said.  “Chris rode him a treat and he did a good job with 57kg.”

Bred in Western Australia, Irish Coffee is by Mungrup Stud sire Oratorio (Aus) and was a $30,000 buy from the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.  His dam Irish Rumour won a Northam maiden in September 2005 and she is a half-sister to G1 Singapore Gold Cup winner Raul.

Former Mungrup resident Hideyoshi (Devil’s Bag) sired Raul.  Leading agent John Chalmers bought him for $12,000 at the 2001 Perth Magic Millions and he earned over S$1.72 million.

Oratorio has been popular with owners and trainers based in Singapore.  The Empire Stable has won four races with Wing Warrior and Cliff Brown broke through with Hooper in March.

His yearlings dominated the leader-board at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions with the three top-priced lots among local sires.  The trio were purchased by Dan Morton ($205K), Craig Thompson ($180K) and John Chalmers ($150K).

Oratorio (Aus) stands for a $22,000 (inc gst) service fee at Mungrup Stud.
