Coolmore shuttler Oratorio (Ire) sired his initial Australian winner when Conturbar scored an emphatic victory in the Coregas Maiden Plate (1000m) at Wyong on Thursday.

Conturbar (2c Oratorio – Rainbow Lover by Canny Lad) is trained by Gerald Ryan and a forward showing wasn’t unexpected.  He started a $2.50 favourite on debut and won pulling up by nearly three lengths.

Ryan purchased the Wyong winner at the 2009 Gold Coast Magic Millions on behalf of owner Bill Ouston.  He was consigned by Murrurrundi based nursery Kulani Park and sold for $45,000.

Conturbar’s dam Rainbow Lover won at Moonee Valley, Kilmore and Mornington but her earlier foals by Fasliyev and High Yield were no great shakes at the races.

Oratorio opened his southern-hemisphere account back in December when Banchee split runners in the straight to score by two lengths at Ellerslie.  She earned black-type at her next two starts in the G3 Eclipse Stakes and Listed Karaka 2yo Million.

Banchee (2f Oratorio – Miss Jessie Jay by Spectacularphantom) was the most expensive Oratorio yearling at the 2009 majors when selling for $375,000 at the Karaka Premier.  She is a half-sister to NZ 1000 and 2000 Guineas winner Katie Lee.

“Banchee is very precocious,” trainer John Sargent said after her debut win.  “She’s laid back and is just a natural.  I think she’s a super filly.”

Oratorio sired 16 first-crop winners in Europe last year led by Dewhurst Stakes winner Beethoven.  The Group 1 at Newmarket was a triumph for the Coolmore freshman who had Fencing Master fill out the quinella.

Beethoven (2c Oratorio-Queen Titi, by Sadler’s Wells) is best priced at $21 for the 2010 English 2010 behind stablemate St Nicholas Abbey who dominates the pre-post classic markets.

“Beethoven is very tough and progressed with every run last year,” trainer Aidan O’Brien said.  “We’ve always thought a lot of him and Sue (Magnier) didn’t call him that name for no reason

Oratorio has been in demand at Coolmore Australia covering 580 mares in four seasons and he’s been just as popular in the sale ring.  His second southern crop averaged $87,500 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions, $52,727 at the Inglis Classic and $108,125 at the Karaka Premier.

Oratorio has 12 yearlings catalogued for the Inglis Melbourne Premier at Oaklands Junction starting on March 1.
