O’Reilly 2YO highlights NZ Bloodstock South Island Sale

An impressive line-up of new-season juveniles will go under the hammer for the annual NZ Bloodstock South Island 2YO Sale and Mixed Bloodstock to be held at the Canterbury Agricultural Park on Friday, August 6.

The 2YO Sale is a continual source of winners throughout Australia, Macau, Singapore, Hong Kong and New Zealand, including the likes of Master O’Reilly, Beau Brummell, Super Kid, Hustler, Ka Lam Fortune, Lesley Brook, Moveovr and Pentiffic.

This year’s sale is bound to follow suit with 187 lots catalogued, up 10% on previous years.

NZB agents Clint Donovan and Danny Rolston recently visited all South Island Sale vendors and were impressed with what they saw.  “We’re excited about the quality on offer this year.  Most breeders are starting to appreciate the need to constantly upgrade broodmares and this year’s catalogue reads accordingly. We have also seen an upward curve in rearing and preparation,” said Donovan.

The sale has amassed a top selection of sires represented from throughout New Zealand, with a good selection of North Island stallions represented, as well as some lots by Australian-based sires.  There are strong offerings from Berkley Stud’s resident sires My Halo and Coat’s Choice, Willow Glen’s Sunray, and the first crops from Long Acres Stud’s Deputy Minister son Remind and White Robe Lodge’s impressive son of Montjeu, Gallant Guru.

Donovan highlighted Lot 165 from the Berkley Stud draft as one of his sale standouts.  He is a son of O’Reilly from Miami, a sister to multiple Listed winner Argentina.

He also predicted Gallant Guru, would make a huge impact on debut.  Represented by a strong line-up of two-year-olds, Donovan singled out Lots 63 (Gallant Guru x Ya Ya) and 91 (Gallant Guru x Ciao) as the young sire’s potential top lots.
