The Railway Stakes in Perth has been dominated by the locals in recent years but the bulk of the $1 million prizemoney could be heading back to Melbourne on Saturday night.
Ortensia (4m Testa Rossa- Aerate’s Pick by Picknicker) can christen Tony Noonan’s satellite stable out west with a Group 1 victory in the State’s premier mile (Ascot Race 7 – 3.40pm AWST, 6.40pm AEDT). The Mornington trainer has just acquired 20 boxes at Ascot.
Ortensia goes into the Railway with sound form in Melbourne. She was beaten two lengths by All Silent in the G2 Gilgai Stakes at Flemington and a length by Apache Cat in the G2 Moir Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Last time out on Melbourne Cup day, she had no luck when runner-up to Strawberry Field in the Herald Sun Stakes.
Ortensia is by Vinery sire Testa Rossa and her dam Aerate’s Pick is an unraced sister to G3 Rubiton Stakes winner Intelligent Star. Noonan prepared the mare for G2 victory in the QTC Cup and she was also placed behind Black Piranha and Danleigh in the G1 Stradbroke Hcp in June.
