The family of 1994 Perth Cup queen Palatious added another notch to its long list of winners when Biantomemphis scored a runaway victory at Pakenham on Friday.  He reveled in the slow going to win the Quinn Civil Maiden Plate (1750m) by four lengths.

Biantomemphis is by Swettenham Stud’s champion sire Bianconi and his dam Memphis Blues (Semipalatinsk) is a sister to Palatious.  She was a stakes winner in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and has foaled seven winners headed by Brisbane sprinter-miler Picablu (14 wins).

Palatious has also foaled seven winners, however, her branch of the family has black-type in spades.

Palatious won the G2 Perth Cup and C B Cox Stakes for Goldfields owner-breeder Keith Biggs and he also raced her first foal Danelagh (Danehill) to a G1 victory in the 1998 Blue Diamond Stakes.

Danelagh has taken the family to another level foaling the Group 1 winners Vengeance Of Rain and Dizelle to Champion NZ sire Zabeel.

Vengeance Of Rain was Hong Kong’s Horse of the Year in 2006 and among his half-dozen highs was an away win in the Sheema Classic in Dubai.

Biggs was also managing part-owner of 2005 AJC Oaks winner Dizelle.  She looked a 100-1 to win the classic less than 100 metres from home but produced a paralysing finish to score by a half-length running away.

Dizelle’s first foal Dizlago (Encosta de Lago) won a stakes race on Caulfield Cup day and she will attempt to emulate her dam in the next edition of the AJC Oaks.

Biantomemphis isn’t in that league but he looked the part at Pakenham when racing first-up following a six month spell.  He might yet make the grade for trainer John McArdle.
