Paris comes Calling for Ducimus

Paris Calling scored a long-priced victory at Belmont on Wednesday but the win didn’t surprise her trainer Trevor Andrews.

Appearing on debut, Paris Calling delivered another win for freshman sire Ducimus when she hit the front and fought back in a close finish to the TABtouch Got The Touch Hcp (1200m).  The tough 2yo filly prevailed from Ima Wild Girl (Performer), Bondi Plunge (Bondi) and Hero Hunter (Ducimus) with less than a length between the first four home,

Andrews bought her for $5,000 from Alwyn Park (as agent) at last year’s Magic Millions Winter Sale.  “She a lovely filly but had been passed-in before we did a deal later on,” Andrews recalled.  “I gave her a good chance today after her Ascot trial last week.  She’s got ability and was suited over 1200m.”

She was purchased for a syndicate that includes his wife Joanne, Magic Millions manager David Houston, Premium Bloodstock’s Grant Burns and Ryan Fuller.  “The boys are over at the Gold Coast Magic Millions Sale and I told them to bring back another one like this filly.

“It was a good ride by Michael (Poy),” Andrews added.  “She relaxed but got a little lost when left in the lead.  The Ducimus stock are going really well and this one will only get better over 1400m and 1600m.”

Snizel stallions Ducimus (Rivercrest Park) and Bondi (Lynward Park) are level-pegging on the WA first-season sires premiership and their battle for freshman honours will be a highlight of the final months of the season.

Paris Calling was bred by Cooni Chua using Ducimus over My Fair Beauty (Trade Fair) who won 7 races up to 2300m for Blackwatch Stud trainer Steve Wallace.  Her second-dam My Charity Belle (Belong to Me) is a half-sister to Al Khawaaneeg (Danzatore) who won the WATC Crystal Slipper Stakes when it was still at Listed event in 1989.

Ducimus has also sired first-crop winners Leading Taddy and Eliteone from his home-base at Steve Hoare’s Rivercrest Park.  He will stand for a $4,400 fee this year alongside God Has Spoken ($2,200).  Both fees (inc GST).
