Honest mare Alberton Park (NZ) picked up her first stakes victory in the LR June Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on Saturday. She peeled off the heels of Stratana before powering home to win by three quarters of a length.
Alberton Park (5m Thorn Park – Alberton Star by Stylish Century) has been racing against some tough competition this season. She was stakes placed in the LR Triscay Stakes (1200m) and LR Wenona Girl (1200m) prior to a last start sixth in the G1 Coolmore Classic (1500m).
The John O’Shea trained mare is the 16th stakes winner for Windsor Park sire Thorn Park. He is New Zealand’s reigning champion sire and is currently in second place behind O’Reilly for this year’s title.
Alberton Park was purchased by Lakeview Stud for $200,000 out of Windsor Park’s draft at the NZ Bloodstock 2008 Premier yearling sale. Her dam Alberton Star won the G2 Taranaki 2YO Classic and G3 Eclipse Stakes and the mare has a yearling sister to the June Stakes winner and she foaled a colt by Mastercraftsman last year.
