Group 1 classic winner Monaco Consul has been purchased by Patinack Farm to stand at stud in 2011.

Monaco Consul (NZ) is a son of champion sire High Chaparral and he doubled up at G1 level in the AJC Spring Champion Stakes and VRC Victoria Derby last season.  News of his purchase comes just days after Patinack announced it had signed the southern hemisphere breeding rights for French classic winner Lope De Vega (Shamardal).

“We are delighted to have acquired a horse of Monaco Consul’s quality,” Patinack Farm’s Chairman Nathan Tinkler said.  “He will find a niche in the growing market for those looking to breed racehorses capable of excelling at a mile and beyond.”

Monaco Consul (4h High Chaparral – Argante by Star Way) was a $100,000 buy from the Windsor Park draft at the 2008 NZ Bloodstock Karaka Sale.  His dam is an unraced sister to G1 winner Con Air (Singapore Raffles Cup) and she is also a half-sister to G1 VRC Australian Guineas winner and successful sire Military Plume (Sir Tristram).

His family has also inherited the speed influences of Group 1 sprinter Nicconi (Bianconi) and his older half-brother Niconero (Danzero) whose 13 wins from 1200m to 2000m included five victories at the elite level.

“I have watched Monaco Consul very closely during his career as he often competed against our own stable’s runners,” Tinkler explained.  “The progeny of High Chaparral have rekindled Australia’s interest in strong middle distance performers and I’m looking forward to standing him alongside our exciting line-up of stallions.”

Monaco Consul’s sire High Chaparral is a runaway leader of the 2010-11 Australian sires’ premiership.  He has sired four Group 1 winners from his first crop conceived in New Zealand – So You Think, Monaco Consul, Descarado and Shoot Out.
