South Australian trainer Bill Smart topped the Capricornia Yearling Sale on Sunday with a Murtajill filly that made $33,000. The Rockhampton sale was conducted by Magic Millions and the 48 lots that changed hands averaged $8,040.
The Capricornia Sale went ahead as scheduled despite rising floodwaters from the Fitzroy River and the Central Queensland TBA would have been happy with a 4% increase in the average. The clearance rate jumped 12 points to 75%.
Patinack Farm topped the sale with a grey filly from the first crop of Murtajill. He stands at Patinack and was a G2 winner of the AJC Skyline Stakes. The filly’s dam Fiery Dee (Fraar) won a Country Cup at Oakbank and she is a half-sister to G3 SAJC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Silent Surround (Face Value).
Next best on the leader-board was a filly by Glenlogan Park resident Real Saga that realised $30,000 to the bid of trainer Tony Gollan. Offered by Stewart Park, she is from Lion Hunter mare Girlzone who is a sister to Flemington stakes winner La Chasseuse.
Leading trainer John Manzelmann weighed in with $25,000 for a first-crop colt by Stravinsky’s Flemington stakes winner Muzdaher. The colt’s dam Bon Simone (Simonstad) was a two year-old winner at Rockhampton. He was offered by Valdora based vendor Rocket Lodge.
The Rockhampton Jockey Club postponed its sale-linked meeting from last Saturday to this Thursday, April 5.
