Pearce Racing homebred Hezangelic was prepped to perfection for his debut in the Debortoli Maiden (1000m) at Northam on Thursday.
The Universal Ruler gelding was a dominant Lark Hill trial winner last month and was sent out a $2.80 favourite after the stable booked Willie Pike to ensure a trouble-free transit. Pike did that and more with a ride right out of the textbook.
Hezangelic jumped on terms with Magic Belle and took a sit behind the filly before switching off her heels to score like a seasoned professional. “That was a terrific start to his career,” Pearce Racing reported. “He clicked into top gear for Willie and then reeled in the leader.”
Co-trainers Ben & Dan Pearce and their father Colin have nurtured the family for generations. “He’s a three-quarter brother to our (LR) Sheila Gwynne Classic winner Angelic Ruler (Universal Ruler) whose career was sadly cut short after succumbing to colic complications. He was bred by ‘Big Col’ and can hopefully give us half as much fun as our former stable star!”
Hezangelic is the first foal of Ascot winner Tips And Scandals (Scandal Keeper) who is an older half-sister to Angelic Ruler. Pearce snr trained second-dam Tip The Angel (Tip The Pro) to five wins at Ascot plus a Listed-placing in the 2007 Jungle Mist Classic.
Universal Ruler completed a double in the Avon Valley on Thursday when his 4yo mare Yonga Lass won the Western Racepix Hcp (1400m). She started a long odds-on favourite and took the short way home for Pike to score by the best part of four lengths.
His speedy 2yo filly Lucky I Am is poised to debut for Jim and Tina Taylor after winning a Belmont barrier trial last Monday. Her dam Lucky Roar (So Secret) has since foaled colts by Playing God and Long Leaf.
Scenic Lodge stands Universal Ruler for $7,500 alongside Dash For Cash for $2,000. Service fees (plus GST). For bookings or further information, contact Jeremy Smith on (08) 9571 0155 or 0419 943 356.
