Perth flag-bearer for Excites

Flag Officer extended his unbeaten record on Wednesday with an impressive win in the Westspeed Nursery Hcp (1400m) at Belmont.

Prepared at Ascot by Paul Jordan, Flag Officer is by Vinery’s first season sire success Excites and is now two for two after winning on debut at Northam last month.

Flag Officer (2g Excites – Fleet Marguerite by Gulch) cruised to a one-length victory and looks another bargain buy from the 2010 Perth Magic Millions.  Jordan bought him for $34,000 out of the Mogumber Park draft for a syndicate leaded by Perth Racing director Harvey Crossman.

“He’s been a bit of a surprise packet because he didn’t show much at all early on,” Jordan declared.  “He was very wayward but he just jumped and ran at Northam.  It was as if all the reels had got into the right place at the right time.”

Flag Officer is by Vinery freshman Excites and is one of five Australian winners from his first crop that also includes brilliant Brisbane filly Amber’s Crown who has earned over $222,000.

His United States bred dam Fleet Marguerite has also foaled New Zealand Group winner Blimey O’Reilly and off-shore winners Strategy (Macau), American Victory (HK), Imperial Flag (Macau) and Nepeta (South Africa).
