Perth Masters double for Chalmers

Perth’s TABTouch Masters carnival was a benefit for Bob Peters and it wasn’t too shabby for John Chalmers Bloodstock (FBAA), either.

Chalmers notched his second black-type in a fortnight at Ascot when Celebrity Dream (NZ) made it back-to-back wins in the LR Jungle Dawn Classic (1400m) on Saturday. He purchased the Thorn Park mare for Peters out of the Haunui Farm draft for $260,000 at the 2014 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale.

Celebrity Dream has returned $453,250 from 9 wins in 20 starts and the latest was a convinving victory over stakes winning mares Misty Metal (Oratorio) and Fontainebleau (Alfred Nobel). “I was worried when she bounced and landed behind the leaders,” jockey William Pike said. “Normally, when she’s that close, she doesn’t finish so well but she knuckled down today.”

The winner’s dam Valpolicella (Red Ransom) won a G3 Manawatu Classic and has also foaled Vavasour (G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic) and Vilanova (G2 Autumn Classic).

Chalmers graduate Pinzu (NZ) had won the LR Carbine Club WA Stakes at Ascot on November 24. The Pins gelding was a $330,000 buy on behalf of Sarah Miller at the 2014 NZB National Yearling Sale from Waikato Stud.

Sweet Deal was another FBAA graduate to double-up on Saturday. She had won at Rosehill last month and returned to The Gardens to land the TAB Rewards Hcp (1400m) for trainer John Thompson.

“She’s been going super at home and Josh (Parr) was confident after riding her at trackwork on Tuesday morning,” Thompson said after watching her shoulder 60kg to victory. “That was the definition of a mare in form!”

Boomer Bloodstock’s Craig Rounsefell bought Sweet Deal for $67,500 at the 2016 Inglis Classic Sale and she’s banked $279,470 from 4 wins in 18 starts. The Casino Prince mare will be set for the Belle Of The Turf Stakes Gr.3 at Gosford next month.
