Peter O’Brien joins Segenhoe Stud

Long serving Coolmore Stud employee Peter O’Brien has been appointed general manager of Segenhoe Stud.

O’Brien has been with Coolmore for nearly 30 years and has been studmaster at its Jerry’s Plains property since 1996.  He has a wealth of experience in all aspects of the thoroughbred industry and is well known and highly respected in Australasia and internationally.

Owner Kevin Maloney has invested significantly in developing Segenhoe Stud since buying the property in 2010.  Fronting over 10 km of the Hunter River, the stud has doubled in size with the acquisition of five adjoining properties that includes a 200 acre spelling, pre-training and rehabilitation facility.

“It was a very difficult decision to leave Coolmore,” O’Brien said.  “But it’s a new and exciting opportunity that was impossible to turn down.”

O’Brien replaces retiring manager Royston Murphy who has been based at Segenhoe for 19 years.  He will take over the reins following the Gold Coast Magic Millions.
