Peters strikes again in Pinjarra Cup

Perth’s premier owner-breeder Bob Peters sustained his unprecedented winning run in stakes races over the weekend.

Peters claimed the G1 WATC Derby with Dreamaway at Ascot on Saturday and then doubled up in the LR Pinjarra Cup with Battle Emblem on Sunday.

Dreamaway (3f More Than Ready – Legal Consent by Danehill) is a class above Perth’s fillies and she put the colts to the sword on Saturday.  Leading local colt Playing God appeared to have the classic in his keeping until Dreamaway delivered her customary closing sprint to score by more than a length.

The formline stacks up particularly as Playing God (Blackfriars) had been placed against all ages in the G1 VRC Australian Cup won by Shocking last month.

Dreamaway broke her maiden at Pinjarra in October and returned this year to win the G3 WA Champion Fillies, LR Ascot 1000 Guineas, LR Natasha Stakes and G3 WA Oaks leading up to the Derby.

She is by Vinery champion More Than Ready who sired More Joyous to a G1 victory in the Queen of the Turf Stakes earlier in the day at Rosehill.

Her dam Legal Consent is a half-sister to Miss Margaret (Marscay) who was a G1 winner of the VRC Chrysler Stakes and South Australian Oaks for Peters and his wife Sandra.

Legal Consent has a yearling filly by More Than Ready that sold for $410,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  She delivered a Street Cry filly in November and was bred back to Medaglia D’Oro.

Peters won his third Pinjarra Cup in the last four years when Battle Emblem powered home for a one length victory on Sunday.  His Jeune stayers Lords Ransom and Star Encounter won the race in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

Battle Emblem (7g Second Empire – Mississippi Belle by Marooned) had been fourth home in the AHA Cup and Bunbury Cup at his two previous starts.

Battle Emblem is by former Heytesbury Stud shuttler Second Empire who is now based in South Africa.  He hails from a successful family that Peters has developed over several generations.  His dam Mississippi Belle is a half-sister to G3 WA Easter Stakes winner Mogul (Serheed) and the dam of G2 WA Guineas winner Clueless Angel (Oratorio).

Second dam Bonus Bonus (Haulpak) is a winning half-sister to G1 WA Fruit ‘N’ Veg Stakes winner Old Nick (Old Spice).

Mississippi Belle has a 2yo filly named Elite Belle (Canny Lad), a yearling filly by Tale of the Cat and she was covered by Mungrup Stud sire Oratorio last year.
