Contract Racing won with Pillar Of Creation in Brisbane last weekend and its top mare Solicit is also set for an interstate breakthrough in Sydney this Saturday.
Pillar Of Creation moved from Melbourne twelve months ago and trainer Tony Sears had been frustrated watching him run placings in the LR Weetwood and LR Glasshouse last year.
The unlucky run continued losing the LR Sunshine Coast Cup on protest in January but all was forgiven when he won the GPK Handicap (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.
“I sulked for two weeks but it’s behind me now,” Sears declared. “I’m very happy for David and Jenny Moodie from Contract Racing and Peter Burnett…they’ve stuck with me.”
Pillar Of Creation had won several Super VOBIS sprints at Caulfield and Moonee Valley before transferring to the Sunshine State. “We will ease up and bring him back for the Weetwood Hcp in April,” Sears added. “He ran second last year and it would be nice to win it this time.”
Greta West Stud’s God’s Own sired him from a sister to Slipstream who carried Contract Racing’s colours to Listed victories at Moonee Valley (2) and Flemington.
Solicit’s turn isn’t far away and she will be one of the favourites for the G2 Guy Walter Stakes at Randwick this Saturday.
She finished second to Our Boy Malachi in the Expressway Stakes and was runner-up to Winx in the Apollo Stakes. “It took the Cox Plate winner to beat her last time,” trainer Gerald Ryan said. “She’s getting better as she gets older and I expect her to go well.”
Solicit was last seen in Melbourne winning the G3 Summoned Stakes by four lengths at Sandown in November. The Moodies bred and race her in partnership with Nick & Gayle Psaltis.
Deceased Darley champion Street Cry sired her from Flemington stakes winner Princesa (Danehill) and second-dam Kapchat (Centaine) was a Group 1 winner of the Coolmore Classic.
Ryan will set Solicit for this year’s edition of the Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 13.
