September Born came of age when he became the 21st black-type winner by Playing God in the LR Fairetha Stakes (1400m) at Ascot on Saturday.
He went to top of the class and laid down the gauntlet to his 3yo rivals with a brilliant victory over Exceed The Planet (Exceedance) in a stunning dress-rehearsal for the G2 WA Guineas (1600m) at Ascot on November 23.
Bookmakers slashed his pre-post price into $2.25 for the $500,000 classic and trainer Neville Parnham chimed in with a positive outlook for a horse he rates very highly. “He did a big job today from an outside barrier. It looked likely he would be caught wide but he got a nice trail three-deep.
“Then Brad (Parnham) let him go. The good part or me was the way he tracked into the race on the corner without being asked. He is still improving and will get the (Guineas) mile on his ear.”
September Born (3c Playing God – Flirt ‘N’ Hope by McFlirt) was winning black-type at his third start following a debut win at Belmont in June before filling out a Playing God quinella behind West Star in the LR Belgravia Stakes (1200m) in October.
He’s a full-brother to G2 WA Guineas (1600m) winner Kay Cee who progressed to a G1 Kingston Town Classic (1800m) victory in 2019. She was also trained by Parnham for owner-breeders Glen and Kathy Edwards.
Their dam Flirt ‘N’ Hope has an unraced 2yo filly named Let’s Talk Legs (I’m All The Talk) and she presented the Edwards family with another filly by Darling View Thoroughbreds sire Playing God in August.
Peters Investments also added a black-type addition to its State-high record when Diamond Scene won the LR Luckygray Stakes (1800m) at Ascot on Saturday.
Diamond Scene (5g So You Think – Jewelled by Zabeel) is a homebred for Bob and Sandra Peters and her dam was stakes placed in the 2009 Belmont Classic LR and Belmont Oaks LR. The mare’s first black-type winner was Adornment (Medaglia D’Oro) in LR Ascot 1000 Guineas of 2019.
Peters Investments had already won Listed races this season with London’s Image (Headwater) in the LR Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) and with another So You Think (NZ) gelding named Midnight Blue in the Seymour Cup (1600m).
