Police find kidnapped Italian stallion

Leading Italian sire Martino Alonso has been found near Naples.  Last November, Siba Stud reported he had been kidnapped from its Brescia property which is situated some 400km to the north of Naples.

Racing Post UK reported a horse meeting his description has been placed in police custody having been found wandering loose on a road on government land near Pomigliano D’Arco in Campania on Thursday night.  Kidnapping is a part of Italian life but, as far as the racing is concerned, it has mainly affected leading trotters in recent years.  .

Martino Alonso (Marju – Cheerful Note by Cure The Blues) was bred by Godolphin and won 9 races in addition to being G1 placed in Italy behind Waky Nao and Taipan.  He went to stud in 2001 and his best performer to date has been G1 Hong Kong Cup winner Ramonti.  He was Italy’s leading sire of juveniles in 2009.
