Vinery Stud-bred graduate Vanquished had been run down at his first two starts after a spell but he wasn’t for catching in the Precise Hcp (1550m) during the King’s Birthday meeting at Canterbury.
Vanquished is trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott and was a $450,000 buy for Tony Fung from Vinery (as agent) at the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions. “He’s going to keep improving when we get him out to a mile and further,” Bott said. “He’s as honest as the day is long and will continue to give his owners plenty of fun.”
That victory was the second for Vanquished following the $250,000 Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1400m) at the Gold Coast in January. He was bred by Vinery partner Greg Perry (Greenwich Stud) who kept a share in a syndicate managed by Aquis Farm.
Vanquished (3g Vancouver – Pocket Power by Giant’s Causeway) hails from one of Perry’s most successful Group 1 families. He’s out of a three-quarter sister to Delectation (VRC Darley Classic) and a half-sister to the dam of Artorius (ATC Canterbury Stakes & MRC Blue Diamond Stakes).
Last-start Sandown winner Furlanetto is another promising 3yo bred and sold by Vinery at the 2022 Gold Coast Magic Millions. She changed hands for $350,000 when purchased by PR Funds on behalf of a syndicate managed by Noorilim Park owner Peter Carrick.
Furlanetto (3f Zoustar – Single Style by Not A Single Doubt) is a half-sister to Star Turn filly Miss Hipstar (BRC Dalrello Stakes LR) and the Lakeside circuit victory was her third in a row over a mile.
After being ridden for speed early in her career, trainers Tony and Calvin McEvoy decided she would be better suited ridden quietly and Harry Coffey was patience personified in the Sportsbet Fast Form Hcp (1600m). “She had a lovely run. They went quick and she got the luck late,” Coffey said. “We’ve learned to get her to relax and then finish off late. She’s in a good place and hopefully it can keep rolling.”
Furlanetto was bred by Vinery partner Steve McCann (Encompass Bloodstock) from Single Style (ATC Keith Mackay Stakes LR). The mare has a yearling colt by Ole Kirk and a filly foal by Exceedance.
“We have spaced Furlanetto’s runs and now she’s really hitting her straps,” McEvoy-Mitchell Racing Manager Rayan Moore said. “She is a big, strong girl and works so well in the mornings. And a really big “Thank You” from the stable to Mark Player and Rob Roulston and the ownership group they put together.”
This season’s Randwick winner Garza Blanca (I Am Invincible) is another Player and Roulston purchase for Noorilim Park from Vinery. He was bred by McCann in partnership with fellow Vinery partner Neil Werrett and Seymour Bloodstock’s David Thomas.
