Shinzig began his stud career on the front foot when first starter Psychic Mick won the Distinctive Homes Plate (1000m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
Eliza Park based Shinzig is a son of Danehill and he snatched a G1 in the 2008 C F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. The bottom half of his pedigree is also bound by black-type – his dam Shindig (Straight Strike) was a G1 winner of the 1998 STC Coolmore Classic.
Psychic Mick (2g Shinzig – Super Fund by Bianconi) was poised behind pacemaker Meadows Mist until he open up a winning break in the straight. Lindsay Park filly Clearwater Bay (Stratum) closed late to be beaten a half-neck
The winner was a $10,000 bargain for part-owner Michael Duffield at the 2011 Adelaide Magic Millions. His dam Super Fund was trained by Lee Freedman to win her first two starts at Mornington and Sandown as an autumn three year-old. But she didn’t train on at four.
Shinzig has four yearlings entered for the Adelaide Magic Millions in March. Eliza Park will also offer a Bel Esprit – Super Fund filly catalogued as Lot 74 in Adelaide.
Eliza Park will be hoping they sell as well as the Shinzig – Chlorophyll colt that made $160,000 at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier. Like Psychic Mick, his dam also won a Coolmore Classic.
Purchased by Rick Hore-Lacy, the colt has been given time and still doesn’t have a name. Chlorophyll has a Magnus yearling filly but she missed when bred back to Wanted.
