Racing Queensland has extended the registration deadline for yearlings to be eligible for the Queensland Thoroughbred Incentive Scheme. The new closing date is July 31.
Racing Queensland is also dropping the QTIS pay-ups considerably. Pre-registered fees are down to $350 for Q-breds and $500 for breed-backs – a reduction of almost two thirds.
Those not currently paid up for the scheme can enter at the reduced rate of $700 for Q-breds and $1,400 for breed-backs.
“We recognise that times are a little difficult for most people in the industry,” RQ Chairman Kevin Dixon said. “It seems the volume of the pay-up in terms of the amount of money was just a little too much.”
TBQA President, Basil Nolan is astounded that there are currently 1,100 QTIS eligible horses that aren’t paid up for the scheme and he has commended RQ for its move to encourage owners to register.
“Those lower pay ups along with the wider spread of the bonuses, giving owners more chances to win the extra cash, is great for the Queensland racing industry,” Nolan said. “Kevin Dixon and the Racing Queensland board should be congratulated for the great job they’ve done in a very short time.
“And the Liberal-National Party should also be congratulated for the $2.5 million they’ve invested into the QTIS scheme.”
