She’s Quality lived up to her name in the Crown Perth Hcp (1200m) at Ascot on Wednesday. The Balmont filly gained her third win from just five starts with a two-length success for trainer Ron Elvy.
She’s Quality (3f Balmont – Seeking Quality by Tribu) won at Bunbury and Ascot, both times over 1100m, at her first two starts in March and April. Resuming this season, she was dogged by bad barriers and finished well back in the G3 Champion Fillies Stakes (1600m) on November 17.
A more favourable draw on Wednesday enabled Paul Harvey to ride She’s Quality confidently and she proved too good sprinting away to a convincing win. “She over-raced in the Champion Fillies,” Elvy explained. “Back in her own class, she came away with the goods. She’s got the ability. We keep her happy and she does the rest.”
Balmont (USA) is a son of Stravinsky and was a G1 winner of the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket. After initially shuttling from Tara Stud in Ireland to Alwyn Park in WA, he is now based permanently at Lynward Park Stud.
She’s Quality was bred at Evergreen Lodge by manager Wendy Liddelow and comes from the family of LR Pinjarra Oaks winner Quality Crescent (Man of Rank). Her dam Seeking Quality won four races on the south-west provincial circuit and her latest foal is an unnamed 2yo by Trade Fair who originally stood at Evergreen before transferring to Alwyn Park.
