North Bloodstock owner Mick Malone sold his fourth Ole Kirk yearling at the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Thursday when Peter Moody purchased the filly from Dancers for $350,000.
Newcomer North Bloodstock sold its first yearling at public auction on Tuesday with an Ole Kirk – Pop Girl colt knocked down for $200,000 and its Wednesday draft included a pair of fillies by the Vinery Stud freshman making a combined $400,000.
“The Ole Kirks are straight-forward and the Day 1 colt is the image of his sire,” Malone said on Thursday. “As for Peter, we go back and it’s great to see the filly will get every chance.”
Moody liked the filly from Dancers (Lot 561) and is currently training her winning half-sisters Ginger ‘N’ Pink (Zoustar) and Mambo Dancer (Rubick) with Katherine Coleman for owner-breeder Neil Werrett. They will be chasing 3yo black-type for Ginger ‘N’ Pink at the back-end of the autumn carnival.
When quizzed about the identity of the filly’s new connections, Moody was in familiar territory. “I like the owner,” he replied. “And that would be me!”
Proven Thoroughbreds continued his winning run with Accredited at Warwick Farm on Wednesday and they celebrated with a well-bought Ole Kirk – Brugal Reward colt for $160,000 on Thursday morning.
A son of Vinery sire All Too Hard, Accredited is trained by Joe Pride and made the most of a textbook ride by Rory Hutchings to clock just a tick outside a 35 year track-record for 1200m. He’s maintained a 50% strike rate since winning on debut in a modest Nowra maiden in June.
“He’s our first yearling for Pride Racing in 2024,” Proven Racing noted. “This one won’t last long.”
Ole Kirk’s Day 3 figures of $3,985,000 put him in the Top 10 for turnover in a tremendous start to the sales season for a first-season sire. His 15 yearlings attracted buyers at an average of $265,667.
“It’s been a great Sale so far, “ Vinery’s bloodstock manager Adam White said on Thursday. “We sold a Kingman filly for $650,000, an Exceedance colt for $330,000 and an Ole Kirk filly for $300,000.
“The Ole Kirks are physical types and we knew we were in a good position looking around the Hunter Valley and then seeing them here at the complex. His grey filly that made a million on Wednesday has been an obvious highlight. It’s extremely hard to get one like her by a first-season sire.
Ole Kirk will start Vinery’s Day 4 draft with a filly from Fursa (Lot 695) on Friday morning.
