Queanbeyan Queen rules at Rosehill

Karuta Queen staked her claims for the GCTC Magic Millions 2YO Classic with a brilliant debut win at Rosehill on Saturday.  The Not a Single Doubt filly led throughout to score by nearly four lengths in a dominant performance.

Karuta Queen was a $30,000 buy at the 2010 Gold Coast Magic Millions and her connections pocketed $42,000 in prizemoney as well as a $20,000 BOBS bonus yesterday.

Karuta Queen (2f Not A Single Doubt – Card Queen by Final Card) is trained by Neville Layt for owner Glenn Williams and she will have another start before going out for a spell.

Layt was confident the filly would be competitive after she worked with smart Snippets colt One More Grand who is a last-start winner of the STC The Rosebud at Rosehill.  “She’s a natural,” Layt said.  “And she has been going a lot better than One More Grand back home.”

The Queanbeyan filly is by Arrowfield Stud’s leading third-season sire Not A Single and her dam Card Queen was a G3 winner of the VATC Blue Diamond Prelude at Caulfield.

The Rosehill result was also a bonus for leading Western Australia stud Durham Lodge.  The Muchea based nursery has her younger half-brother by Show a Heart catalogued for the 2011 Perth Magic Millions yearling sale.

Card Queen also foaled a filly by Durham Lodge resident Blackfriars on September 2.  The mare was a $55,000 buy for Durham owner David Smith from Turangga Farm at the 2009 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
