Queensland Oaks on the radar for Telepathic

Mossman filly Telepathic maintained her unbeaten run this year with a half-length victory in the Governor General’s Cup (1600m) at Avondale on Friday.

Trainers Dean and Donna Logan will now send her straight to Brisbane.  “The Queensland Oaks will be her main aim,” Donna Logan said.  “The mile today was short of her pet distance – we will see the best of her when she gets over more ground.

“She’s the sort of filly that can cope with wet going, too.  She’s definitely got all the ability and we just have to manage her on a programme through to the Oaks.”

The Ruakaka based filly got the upper hand against Glorious Lad (Falkirk) on Friday to score by a half-length.  The runner-up was coming off a last-start placing in the G1 New Zealand Derby.

The G1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) is worth $400,000 and will be run at Eagle Farm on May 31.

Telepathic (3f Mossman – Telepathy by Conatus) has been sending out Group 1 signals for some time.  She won an Avondale maiden in October and then finished fifth in the G2 Eight Carat Classic (1600m) at Ellerslie on Boxing Day before racing away with the Lindauer 3YO Stakes at Ellerslie a fortnight ago.

Another Group 1 in Brisbane would complete a stellar season for the Logans after they won the Australian Oaks with Rising Romance at Randwick last week.  “We’ve always had a big opinion of Telepathic,” Donna Logan added.  “Early on we thought she was right up there with Rising Romance.”

Telepathic is a homebred for Gerry Harvey and is from the famed Eight Carat family.  A Group 1 would send her value right through the roof.

Vinery sire Mossman is also enjoying a career-best season and is currently in the Top 5 on the Australian sires’ premiership with earnings of $7.30 million.
