Quota qualifies for Swettenham Summer Final

Over Quota punched his ticket to the $100,000 Swettenham Summer Championship Final with a surprise victory in Heat 9 of the series at Flemington on Saturday.

Over Quota (6g Testa Rossa – Jazz Baby by Zabeel) won Heat 1 on December 21 but was allowed to go out at $61 in the Comedy King Hcp (1600m) at headquarters.

“There didn’t look to be much pace in the race so the plan was to push forward,” trainer Mark Webb said.  “Peter (Mertens) landed outside the leader La Rocket rode him to the letter.

“We’re looking forward to the Swettenham Final now, especially if it’s run on a dry track.”

Over Quota is raced by Bairnsdale based owners Arno Blank and Judy Bourke who bought him for $28,000 at the 2007 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  The six year-old is by Vinery sire Testa Rossa and has now earned over $133,000.

Over Quota has collected 20 points for his two wins and leads the table from Let’s Be Happy (18), Platamone Castle (17), Wealthy Lad (16), La Rocket (16) and Giresun (15.5).

The final of 10 Heats will be run at Flemington on January 21 prior to the $100,000 Final at Sandown on January 28.  The prize package also includes a trophy and a free service to Swettenham Stud sire Equiano which is valued at $16,500.
