Rachel Alexandra turned in yet another dominating performance when she captured the US$1.25 million Haskell Invitational (G1) at Monmouth Park on Sunday.

Rachel Alexandra took charge approaching the home turn and drew off under Calvin Borel to win by six lengths over Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Summer Bird.  It was her second win over males having won the Preakness Stakes (G1) in May.  The Medaglia d’Oro filly has now won eight races in a row.

“The Haskell was our major goal,” trainer Steve Asmussen said.  “All of her races are very special for different reasons.  She can handle the crowd, the weather, nothing surprises her.”

Asmussen revealed the filly would return to Saratoga before he consulted with owner Jess Jackson about future plans for the champion filly.  Another start against the colts in the Travers Stakes is most likely.  Jackson is dead-set against running Rachel Alexandra in the Breeders’ Cup on Santa Anita’s synthetic track.

“This filly is just unbelievable,” Borel beamed after the win.  “I just wanted to keep her focused with a couple of taps.  She started looking around at the crowd, so I just kept her busy – kept her focused.  We have not gotten to the bottom of her, that’s for sure.  She’s an amazing athlete and I’m glad that I get to ride her.”

Rachel Alexandra became the first filly 85 years to win the Preakness when she defeated Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mine That Bird.  Her victories this year also include a 19 length romp in the Mother Goose (G1) and a 20 length tally in the Kentucky Oaks (G1).  Her bank balance is now just under $2.5 million from a 13: 10-2-0 record.
