Rachel’s rendezvous with Curlin

The mating between USA Horses of the year Curlin and Rachel Alexandra took place at Lane’s End Farm in Kentucky on Monday morning.  Both horses were raced by Jess Jackson and Barbara Banke’s Stonestreet Thoroughbreds.  Jackson is the founder of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates in Santa Rosa, California.

“Rachel Alexandra’s 2009 campaign was one for the ages, “Jackson said.  “And Curlin showed the heart of a champion in every race.  He did everything we asked of him and more.

Curlin stands at Lane’s End at a fee of $40,000 and his first crop are yearlings in 2011.  Rachel Alexandra is a daughter of Darley shuttler Medaglia d’Oro and was visiting the breeding barn for the first time.

“The privilege of owning these horses is like lightning striking twice,” Banke said.  “Rachel Alexandra and Curlin are true champions; both horses embody that intangible equine ideal that separate mere horse from legend.  Both Jess and I are so pleased that these powerful bloodlines will pass to future generations.”
