Raheen Stud bolstered its broodmare numbers at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne March Sale with two well-bred mares from Lindsay Park and Darley.

Fleet Riane (Barely A Moment) repaid the first dividend with a promising win in the Off The Rails Hcp (1400m) at Eagle Farm on Wednesday.  

Formerly trained by David Hayes, she was credited with wins at Morphettville and Murray Bridge prior to changing hands at Oaklands Junction.  Now in the care of Brian Smith, the four year-old mare was always prominent before breaking through in Brisbane.

“We were thinking of putting her to stud this year but she will stay in work after yesterday’s result,” Raheen’s Basil Nolan jnr said.  “Brian said she’s still maturing and should more than pay her way in the next 12 months.”

Fleet Riane is the latest city winner for in-form sire Barely A Moment.  The Cornerstone Stud stallion got her from a family that has already produced numerous winners for Raheen.

She is from a sister to the dam of G1 South African based colt Gimmethegreenlight (More Than Ready) and a half-sister to the dam of Peter Moody’s promising three year-old Club Command (Commands).

Raheen also purchased Darley mare Mercara (Commands) at Oaklands in March.  She is a winning half-sister to G1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes winner Neroli (Viscount).

Mercara will be covered by Raheen’s first season sire Captain Sonador this month.  He was the first open age Group 1 winner by Darley shuttler Shamardal in Australia and will stand for an $11,000 (inc gst) service fee.
