Raising awareness of MND

Cath’s Village kicked off a winning weekend for Greta West Stud sire Master Of Design with an emotional victory for her connections at Geelong on Friday.

Racing for the red-hot combination of Darren Weir and Damian Lane, she chimed in to claim the Coast Scaffolding Plate (1100m) for a syndicate that includes Cath Baker who is battling Motor Neuron Disease.  “This a win above and beyond horse racing,” Spicer Thoroughbreds manager Brad Spicer said.  “Jason Richardson and Cath’s friends have been raising money and awareness of the disease.

“We auctioned a share at a luncheon with Nicky Buckley, David Hayes and Mick Sharkie and about 30 people bought into the filly.  She will go to town now and we’re organizing a big day out for Cath and the Baker family.”

Cath’s Village cost $65,000 at the 2016 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.  Her dam Path Of Love (More Than Ready) is a half-sister to USA stakes winner Paris Return who was exported to Australia where she won at Moonee Valley for Bart Cummings.

Riverdance Lad doubled up for Master Of Design in the Procon Developments Hcp (1200m) at Cranbourne on Friday evening.  He’s the first foal of Waltzing Lily (Golden Snake) from a prolific winning family nurtured by Monomeith Stud’s Ross Hennessy.

Her half-brother Diggersanddealers won 10 races and was stakes placed at Caulfield.  Second dam Reel Lover (Celtic Swing) was a half-sister to 8 winners including Inspire (G3 VRC Carbine Club Stakes).

Jaminzah won the Billy Smith Hall Of Fame Hcp (1800m) on Saturday to complete a hat-trick at Flemington.  A member of Master Of Design’s first crop, he had won two in a row at headquarters earlier this season before transferring to Chris Waller’s stable in Sydney.

“It was his fourth run back from a spell so there were no worries about his fitness,” Waller explained.  “And there’s more improvement to come now that he’s back in Melbourne.”

Jaminzah (pictured) graduated from the 2015 VOBIS Gold Sale and has now earned $285,860 including VOBIS Bonuses of $20,500.  He was bred and sold by Portland couple Ian and Vicki Bell from their mare Sarchi Lodge (Grand Lodge).

She has a 2yo filly and yearling filly by Master Of Design and was bred back to him at Greta West Stud last September.

The Bells were on fire on Saturday.  The Portland couple also struck with Miss Iano (Equiano) at Doomben and with Marcel From Madrid (Sepoy) in the G3 National Stakes at Morphettville.
