Chatswood Stud shuttler Rakti sired his first winner when the aptly named Maidtorun scored by a head in the TurfTV Maiden Stakes (1000m) at Beverley on Monday.

Maidtorun (2f Rakti – Bayletta by Woodborough) had to call on all her reserves to overhaul well-touted newcomer The Hermitage (Kheleyf) at her second start.  She had run fifth on debut at Beverley last month.

Maidtorun (Ire) had the worst of the draw but kept tabs on the leaders and showed real battling qualities to gain the upper hand near the line.  She will be even better suited by an extra furlong and should improve again.

Trained by Richard Fahey, Maidtorun was sold for 11,000gns at the 2008 Tattersalls Yearling Sale last November.  Her dam Bayletta is a half-sister to 1992 English 2000 Guineas runner-up Lucky Lindy.

Rakti has 51 foals in his first northern crop at the Irish National Stud.  He has 68 foals from his first southern season at Chatswood and they sold to $75,000 at the 2009 majors.

Topping the list was the colt from Geiger Counter mare Saturated at the Inglis Melbourne Premier.  He was consigned by Flinders Park and is from a half-sister to G1 winner Pompeii Ruler.

Rakti, who is by Danzig sire Polish Precedent, was a G1 winner at Ascot (2), Newmarket and in Italy (2).  He stood at Chatswood for a $19,250 fee last year.
