Rebel Bride set for Bow Mistress Stakes

Telesto (USA) didn’t generate enough black-type to stay on the Armidale Stud roster but he may have left a stakes winner of the future with Rebel Bride.

The Leon Wells trained mare has won five of her six starts this season and will now be set for the G3 Bow Mistress Stakes in Hobart next month.

Rebel Bride (4m Telesto – Striking Sort by Blazing Sword) demolished a classy field of fillies and mares with a last-start victory in the Winzenberg Trophy (1100m).  “She has done everything we’ve asked of her this preparation and it’s clear she’s above average,” Wells said.  “Every time I raise the bar she answers the challenge.”

Rebel Bride won on debut on Launceston Cup day last season and after that race Wells predicted she would develop into a star.  “It’s great when they realise their potential,” Wells added.  “She has done a great job so far this season but there are a couple more steps to go.”

Rebel Bride is raced by Chris Wickham and his wife Sharon.  Her dam Striking Sort won at Wangaratta and her half-brother Carnelian (Tinterosse) was a Listed winner in Melbourne and Brisbane.

Telesto (Mr Prospector) built up a more than acceptable 59% winning strike-rate at Armidale Stud but his only black-type performer to date has been Big Brass Band.  Armidale owner Robyn Whishaw sold him to stand in The Philippines last year.
