Record returns at Rome yearling sale

A classically bred Cape Cross filly was widely predicted to be the star turn of the ITS Yearling Sale in Rome on Friday and she didn’t disappoint.

The grey filly was sold by Razza del Velino for 250,000 euros to Felice Villa of Scuderia Effevi.

Her dam Claba Di San Jore (Barathea) has already foaled six winners including G1 Derby Italiano winner Awelmarduk (Almutawakel), G2 Derby Italiano winner Crackerjack King (Shamardal) and G1 Gran Premio di Milano winner Jakkalberry (Storming Home).

Villa also paid 120,000 euros for a Manduro colt out of the stakes performer Paint In Green (Invincible Spirit).

Pin-hooker Willie Browne concluded a busy month in preparation for the 2012 Breeze-Up Sales when going to 85,000 euros for a Shamardal half-sister to the stakes performer Tenson.

Conducted in Rome’s south-east adjacent to Capannelle racecourse, the ITS Sale grossed a record 1.40 million euros at an average of 24,570 euros.
