Snow Alert claimed his first black-type victory in a hectic finish to the Listed Rowley Mile at Hawkesbury on Saturday. The Chris Waller trained gelding increased Red Ransom’s Australian stakes winner tally to 26 and worldwide to 96.
Vinery stalwart Red Ransom died last November after shuttling between Vinery’s Kentucky base and its Hunter Valley for a decade. His best southern hemisphere bred galloper is 2009-10 Australian Horse of the Horse favourite Typhoon Tracy.
Snow Alert (4g Red Ransom – Flurry by Groom Dancer) failed to make a $200,000 reserve at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions. Stratheden Stud owner Judy Marheine took the youngster home and he is now within a dollar or two of banking $300,000.
“He’s really matured this preparation,” Waller explained. “He used to get to the front and not finish off but now he digs deep. I think he will run a strong 2000m and there might be a nice race for him in Brisbane.”
Snow Alert is a three quarter brother to Red Ransom filly Portillo who was a G2 winner of the AJC Surround Stakes and STC Magic Night Quality. He is also from the immediate family of Snowdrift and her stakes winning sons Snowland and Snippetson.
Snowdrift topped Day 2 of the Inglis Easter Broodmare Sale last month when she was sold for $775,000 to bloodstock agent Kieran Moore. The French bred mare was offered by Tyreel Stud in foal to Red Ransom.
Also close up in his pedigree is Vinery shuttler Myboycharlie (Danetime). He was a G1 winner of the Prix Morny at Deauville and Vinery has priced his second season services at $11,000.
