Darley stallion Reset sired outstanding filly Set For Fame in his second crop and Pinker Pinker is heading in the same direction from his third. Trained by Greg Eurell, she was competitive against the top fillies during the spring carnival but has lifted to a new level this time in.
Pinker Pinker (3f Reset – Miss Marion by Success Express) won the G2 Angus Armanasco Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on February 26 and she stepped up a furlong to nail the G3 Matron Stakes against older mares at Flemington on Saturday.
“She hasn’t missed a beat this prep and tries very, very hard,” Eurell said after his filly collared Platinum Passion and Gail. “We will take her to Sydney for the Vinery Stud Stakes.”
The Vinery is a Group 1 event worth $400,000 on Golden Slipper day.
Set For Fame won the G2 Armanasco Stakes last year and then finished second to Rock Classic in the G1 Australian Guineas. The Peter Moody trained filly failed in the 2010 Vinery Stakes won by Faint Perfume but Eurell believes his filly can play a bigger part this year.
Pinker Pinker is raced by David and Carol Kirby and is a $120,000 graduate from Milford Thoroughbreds at the 2009 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale. She is out of a three-quarter sister to stakes performer Sipowicz.
Sydney mare Warpath became Reset’s 10th individual stakes winner in the Listed Aspiration Stakes at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
Warpath (4m Reset – Only Vanda by Linamix) won by more than two lengths despite racing wide to improve her record to 7 wins from 12 starts. She is trained by John O’Shea and was a $55,000 bargain buy out of the Twin Palms draft at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Twin Palms sold Reset to Lloyd Williams for $190,000 at the 2002 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Warpath’s USA bred dam Only Vanda was a Canterbury winner for Twin Palms Stud. Her Charge Forward filly Limerock is trained by Peter Moody and she won at Horsham and Sandown in December.
Moody enjoyed a career-high with Black Caviar on Saturday and he would have been floating on air after stablemate Set For Fame flew home to finish third in the lucky last at Flemington.
